Headway Themes has recently gotten a major update. Not only did they release a new version of this premium theme, but they also released a new site design, a new support site, and new documentation built from the ground up to go along with it. Some of the features they’ve built in to this release are:
- WordPress 3 Menu Support
- WordPress Multi-Site Support
- Built in SEO
- Visual Editor
- A Quick Start Wizard
- Column Support
- Text WYSIWYG Leaf
A big release with this really gives them the edge in the latest frameworks out there. After using this version for the past few weeks both in a beta preview and now in a releasable version, it’s great to work with.
WordPress 3 Menu Support
Since the release of WordPress 3, themes have been updating to include support for the new menu system, and Headway is no different. Headway will now detect if you have create a menu and automatically switch to using it. Want to have multiple menus? That’s no problem either with Headway. Headway also provides a Navigation leaf that allows you to place menus anywhere in your design.
WordPress Multi-Site Support
This is probably one of the most requested features from within the community. Headway works by saving some data to the database and before 2.0 it wasn’t possible to get this working with the previous WP-Mu versions. Not only does the Visual Editor work on multiple sites, but you can also add custom code to each site that uses Headway.
Built in SEO
This release includes better built in SEO support even going as far as including a live preview on your posts page. Using All in One SEO already? No problem! Headway will detect your using it and allow you to continue to use All in One, or if you prefer to give Headway’s SEO a try, you can import your settings from All in One into Headway.
Headway was the first theme to include a Visual Editor for designing your site. With this release, Headway added some updates to it’s Visual Editor, such as the ability to apply styles, use sliders to change padding and margins, as well as add rounded corners. It even allows you to export and import settings.
Quick Start Wizard
Headway now offers a quick start wizard for you to get started in the Visual Editor. It allows you to select a layout, upload a header graphic, select a color scheme from the header, and select fonts. Everything you need to get started is there.
Another big requested feature was column support. Headway 2.0 now has the ability to add columns to your layout. This unleashes a whole new range of layout options!
Text WYSIWYG Leaf
This is also another highly requested feature. The new Text Leaf in Headway 2.0 has a built in WYSIWYG editor. It allows users to easily style the text leaf without having to write custom CSS.
Overall this is a huge update to this popular theme! It’s a great for those of you DIY’ers, looking to try out another theme framework, or developers that want to streamline their development time. With all these features, plus a friendly community and helpful support staff, Headway Themes is moving mountains in the theme community. I encourage you to take a look at the theme if your getting started on a new project or are looking for something a little different to play with.
