I always work on polishing off my blog around the first of the year and this year is no different. One of the things I wanted to do was try running my own custom theme again. If you weren’t aware, I’ve been a big advocate of Headway Themes for the past couple of years. Since I fell in love with Headway I’ve used it to design my site.
The past 6 months or so, I’ve been doing a lot of development for a client and they use SASS. One thing I wanted to do was to build a theme for my personal site and use SASS. I could have used Headway as a base, and just created a child theme, but I didn’t want to have to deal with so many different classes. Building your own theme can sometimes give you an appreciation that you would not typically find when using one you’ve either a) used one for quite a period of time, or b) relied on others to build something for you.
In this case, I just wanted to take another stab at creating something on my own that was simple and easy to use, specifically for my purpose. The coming weeks, will hopefully give you some insight into what I’ve been working on with it regards to this theme, what I’ve been up to, and what I’m hoping 2013 will bring. A lot has been happening, but I needed some time to take care of my wheel house first.
If you want to check out the theme, feel free to take a look at it on Github. There’s still a lot of things I need to do to the repo, like compile all the CSS to a compressed file, I need to create a README file so you have a little bit of understanding of the file, but for now, if you can read code, and know how to install a theme, you can check it out. And of course, please let me know if you have any feedback on it! I’m sure I’ll be adding some things to it in the next couple of days.
